Xi Asks for Strong China–Spain Cooperation Against Global ‘Law of Jungle’

(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday that China and Spain should deepen cooperation to resist what he described as a return to the “law of the jungle,” amid heightened global tensions linked to the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

The remarks were made during Xi’s meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing, according to state media reports.

“The world today is in turmoil, confronted with the contest between the rule of law and the rule of power,” Xi said, urging both countries to work together to “jointly defend true multilateralism.”

His comments did not directly reference the US-Israeli war with Iran, but they came against the backdrop of rising international criticism of the conflict.

Both Spain and China have reportedly expressed opposition to the strikes against Iran, describing them as “unacceptable” and “illegal,” while preparing for upcoming diplomatic engagements involving global leaders.

Sanchez, who arrived in China on Saturday for a five-day visit, is making his fourth trip to the country since taking office. The visit follows a recent state trip by Spain’s King Felipe VI, the first Spanish monarch to visit China in 18 years.

Economic ties between the two countries continue to expand, with bilateral trade surpassing $55 billion last year, making China Spain’s largest trading partner outside the European Union.
