US Allows Russian Oil Delivery to Cuba
The vessel, carrying an estimated 730,000 barrels of crude, is scheduled to dock at the Matanzas terminal by Tuesday, providing a crucial energy supply to the island amid rising tensions with the US.
According to the report, the tanker’s arrival will give Cuba several weeks of fuel reserves, alleviating immediate energy shortages and reducing pressure on the government as it faces economic strain and ongoing US threats. The delivery also signals that Cuba can continue to rely on Russia for support, at least temporarily.
The oil blockade, initiated in January by the Trump administration, had previously included threats to countries supplying fuel to Cuba. In one case, a US escort redirected an oil tanker bound for the island, demonstrating the strict enforcement of the embargo.
