Third Suspect Detained in Foiled Attack on Bank of America in Paris

(MENAFN) French authorities have detained two additional suspects in connection with a thwarted explosive attack targeting a Bank of America building in Paris, local media reported Sunday, citing the country's National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office.

Among those arrested is a minor, reportedly spotted near the site of the attempted attack before fleeing on foot, according to a broadcaster. A second individual, apprehended alongside the teenager, was also taken into custody — though investigators say he bears no direct connection to the plot.

Their arrests follow the Saturday detention of another minor, whose custody period has since been extended by authorities.

Terrorism prosecutors launched a formal investigation following the incident, which centered on an attempt to ignite an improvised explosive device on the pavement outside the Bank of America premises. The primary suspect was intercepted by law enforcement in the act of attempting to light a container filled with an unidentified liquid, fitted with a firecracker, that had been placed directly in front of the building.

In a disclosure that has drawn significant attention, the suspect informed police he had been transported to the site after being recruited online — allegedly promised €600 ($692) in exchange for carrying out the attack. The recruitment, he said, was conducted through the social media platform Snapchat.

Investigations remain ongoing.
