Russia Calls on U.S. to Avoid Venezuela Escalation

(MENAFN) Russia issued a stern warning Sunday urging Washington to avoid escalating tensions with Caracas into full-blown military confrontation, as Moscow's top diplomat expressed unwavering support for Venezuelan authorities amid surging regional hostilities.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov declared his nation's solidarity with Venezuela's leadership while cautioning the U.S. government against "sliding" into comprehensive conflict with the South American nation, underscoring Moscow's growing alarm over deteriorating hemispheric stability.

The Kremlin observes unfolding events in Venezuela with mounting apprehension as regional friction intensifies and shows no signs of abating, the senior diplomat emphasized. "This is primarily linked to Washington's desire to assert unquestioned dominance in the region, a trademark of the Trump administration," Ryabkov was quoted by media as saying, directly attributing the crisis to American foreign policy ambitions.

Ryabkov underscored Russia's robust alliance with Caracas, citing the recently finalized strategic partnership and cooperation framework agreement between both nations as evidence of deepening bilateral ties. "We support Venezuela, just as it supports us ... In this trying time, we stand with Caracas and its leadership shoulder to shoulder," Ryabkov said, signaling Moscow's commitment to defending Venezuelan sovereignty against external pressure.

Meanwhile, Washington has dramatically expanded its naval footprint across Caribbean waters in recent months. Since September 2, the Pentagon has executed no fewer than 22 documented military strikes targeting suspected narcotics trafficking vessels throughout the Caribbean basin and eastern Pacific Ocean regions, resulting in more than 87 fatalities among those aboard the targeted craft—operations that have heightened concerns about American military assertiveness in Latin American maritime zones.
