UN Urges Respect for Journalists
Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric addressed the issue during a briefing, stating, “I treat all the journalists I deal with, with the utmost respect, and everyone should,” in response to a question concerning Barrack’s statements made during his visit to Lebanon.
Tom Barrack, who also holds the post of US Ambassador to Türkiye, attracted considerable backlash for his comments directed at Lebanese reporters during a press event held at the Presidential Palace in Beirut.
He remarked, “The moment this starts becoming chaotic, like animalistic, we’re gone,” while urging journalists to “act civilized, act kind, act tolerant.”
These remarks were widely criticized as inappropriate and disrespectful toward the press.
